Maxilian's Opening Bonspiel

Greetings Earthlings,

Welcome to the “THIRD ROCK FROM THE SUN” bonspiel, where we will
GO WHERE NO CURLER HAS GONE BEFORE.
The Perth Curling Club opening bonspiel is coming up soon and will be
held on October 22,23,24 (Thursday evening, Friday evening, Saturday all
day).

This SCI-FI themed, three day event will be structured a little differently
than previous bonspiels. We plan to steal a page from the Rock League
curling events that we saw last season on TV.

Your “on-line” registration will ask for your preferred position and (of course)
for your $75.00 entry fee, to be paid as part of this process. Once
registration has closed, you will be placed on one of six “12 person teams”
and assigned to one of three specific disciplines - Mixed 4s, Women’s 4s,
Men’s 4s. Please note that Mixed 4s might be changed to Mixed Doubles
or three person teams based on the total registration numbers.
Your entire team will be on the ice together, playing each of these
disciplines against an entire other team.

If that’s not enough of a change, these games will be four ends in length.
Your team will play five of these games over the weekend - one against
each of the other teams.

Games will start at 6:00pm on both Thursday, October 22 and Friday,
October 23 with the last games at 9:30 on both of those evenings. On
Saturday, October 24, games will start at 8:30am and run for most of the
day.

As mentioned above, these games will be 4 end games and have a
maximum time of 55 minutes.
We will place spouses on the same team but probably not in the same
discipline.
This will be a “Winner Take All” event for the number one team at the end of
the weekend, with the members of that team taking home the big prize.

Lunch will be served to participants mid-day Saturday with a full supper later that day. Both meals are included with the registration fee. A supper only fee ($25.00) will be available upon registration. You will also be asked about any special meal requirements.

On Saturday, October 24th, Lorne Musselman from Let’s Rock Curling Supplies will be set up in the lobby. If you haven’t already done so, this will be your opportunity to replace your gripper along with any other items you need.

As mentioned above, this is a “Sci-Fi” themed bonspiel and there will be a prize for the best costume - either on-ice or off the ice. So come dressed up as your favourite character.
